tour 2: canterbury park (9a – noon)

The focus of the tour to Canterbury Park will be on the "back-side" of the horse racing park. We will witness the horses getting trained in the various ways including the use of the wheel, the pool, other various practices as well as work outs. The importance of the horse racing industry to the local economy and local agriculture will also be discussed.

Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes as there may be considerable walking. Buses are very limited as to where they can go during the training time of the day. www.canterburypark.com

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum features 1,137 acres of beautiful public gardens designed to inspire ideas for visitors' own backyards. First, you will be treated to a 3-mile, 1-hour guided tour (on the bus) to give you an overview of the entire arboretum. Following the guided tour, you are free to wander about as you desire.

We will be visiting Pine Tree Apple Orchard in White Bear Lake. We can stop at the bakery for a bite to eat and then take a tractor ride through the orchard. There is a 75% chance that the strawberries will be ripe by June 13, so you may get a chance to pick some. www.pinetreeappleorchard.com
