We had an excellent tour guide at the Steamboat Arabia museum. He had a good sense of humor and interacted well with both kids and adults.

More hardware. The amazing collection on display at the museum is only a fraction of the artifacts recovered from the site of the Arabia. It will take the museum many years to curate the rest of it.

There was much to read about the Arabia and what it might be like to travel on a steamship, as well as what it was like to live during that era.
The Arabia's boiler tubes. They produce enough energy to move 200 tons of steamboat and its cargo up the river.
Boiler and water-pumping equipment (called a “Doctor”). Water was pulled from the river and into the steamboat's boiler system.
The Arabia's Paddlewheel measured 28 feet.

A wind wagon, aka a sailing wagon. Some were similar to an ordinary wagon, weighing about 350 lbs, with beds about 3 x 8 ft x 6 in deep. They could go as fast as 15 - 40 mph.

Wednesday was Tour Day
The National World War Museum at Liberty Memorial, Kansas City, MO. The admission fee included a 2-day pass so you could go back and spend more time. Excellent museum!

One of two sphinxes that guard the south entrance of the Liberty Memorial. “Memory” faces east toward the battlefields of France, shielding its eyes from horrors of war, while “Future” faces west, shielding its eyes from an unknown future.

When Walter Myers of Steubenville, Ohio enlisted in the Army during World War I, his artist father, Ross, painted an original patriotic design on the envelope of each letter his family sent him.
At one time Walter asked his father to stop decorating them because his mail was being stolen for their art. These were absolutely amazing to look at, and it was hard to choose which ones to photograph.

Following our tour, we were served a box lunch by Florence Hawley in the museum's cafe.
The museum provides a venue for receptions, dinners and other events.
Our drivers did a tremendous job getting us from place to place downtown.
